Bring It All: Improvising With Your Full Self w/ Jada Pulley & Denzel Belin
10:00am - 12:00pm We're all full of ourselves. A wonderful mixed bag of identities, interests, history, knowledge, and other multitudes. Sadly, we often feel the need to hold back certain parts of ourselves when we are in the company of people whose identities have more social power. This workshop is meant to empower you to feel comfortable sharing your full self and to have fun doing it.
Jada Pulley (they/them) is a queer Black non-binary theater artist based in Minneapolis, MN.
Jada is a staple of HUGE Theater, where they regularly produce and perform in improv shows, such as Bad Poets Society, DUH, and Based On A True Story. As a proud founder of the Queer and Funny Improv Festival, and a director of the Twin Cities Black and Funny Improv Festival, Jada is eternally dedicated to making improv an art form accessible to all people, especially those who are traditionally marginalized in theater spaces. Denzel Belin (he/him) is a Black bisexual Minneapolis-based writer, director, actor, producer, and improviser. Belin is a longstanding cast member and writer at Brave New Workshop and a staff writer for AWF magazine. He serves as the Artistic Director for Threshold Theater, whose mission is to "produce fresh LGBTQ works." He currently writes and performs for “Queer Window,” an all-queer sketch show based in New York City. Belin recently presented a long-form collection of solo sketches and storytelling, “With Love, From Washington” for the Blackness Is…Festival in Minneapolis. Denzel is currently working with Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus as a script writer for their holiday concert, "Shall We Prance?" which plays December 9th and 10th at Ted Mann Concert Hall. Queer and Afraid: Learning to Roar with Sarah McPeck
2:00pm - 4:00pm Improv is scary and rewarding at the same time. On top of that being the only queer in the class or team can add more anxiety and trepidation but no more! In this workshop students will learn to feel comfortable taking the space that rightfully belongs to them and learning to make powerful and dynamic choices that will lead to even bigger, better and queerer improv!
Sarah McPeck (she/her) is a stand up comedian, improv artist and LGBTQ+ activist living and working in Minneapolis. She received her comedy education at HUGE Theater and The Brave New Workshop. Sarah was an instructor at The Brave New Workshop. Sarah teaches sketch, stand up and speech writing. To find out more check out her website at www.sarahmcpeck.com. |
